Splatoon is getting a major update this Wednesday (Thursday if you're in Europe) which brings with it squad battles, private battles, a level cap rise and more gear and weapons to use.
However, beyond these big changes there are many minor alterations that will have a sizeable impact on how the game plays. These have kindly been listed in detail on Nintendo's Japanese site:
Ver. 2.0.0 [8/5/2015 distribution plans] – 610MB download
Adding Tag Match mode.
- Adding a mode where you, together with a group of friends, can join and play ranked matches with other groups in "Tag Match" mode.
- As for ranked battles, you must be level 10+ to participate.
- After linking up with friends, you can then link up with your friends' friends.
- In the case you join only with specific friends, please use the option to set a password.
- Regarding opponents in Tag Match mode, you will only be matched with similarly-playing opponents in Tag Match mode.
- Players playing ranked battles, you may not compete with players playing Tag Match mode.
- You may play Tag Match mode with 4, 3, or 2 players.Groups of 3 may play against groups of 4. In this situation, the group of 3 will respawn faster, as the side with only three is at a disadvantage.
- In the situation you are playing in a group of 2, you can be matched with three other groups of 2 to play a "2 group of 2 vs. 2 groups of 2″ battle.
Adding Private Match mode.
- Adding a Private Match mode where you can play with your friends using whatever rules, stages, and team divisions you like.
- After linking up with friends, you can then link up with your friends' friends.
- In the times you want to participate only with specific friends, please use the option to set a password.
Changes regarding level:
- You may now level up to level 50.
- Once you have reached level 20 and have listened to the explanation in the lobby, the level cap will be raised.
Changes regarding rank:
- You are now able to rank up to the S and S+ ranks. You may raise your rank to S and S+ in Ranked Match (you may not do so in Tag Matches).
- Once reaching rank S or S+, victories or defeats in Tag Matches will not affect your rank.
- The method for calculating rank points (+/- 10, 8, 12, etc.) has been modified.
- If your rank changes while in the middle of playing ranked battles, you will be sent back to the lobby.
Adding gear.
- New gear will be added, which can be bought from the shops at random.
Adding BGM.
- New BGM (background music) will be added, which can be heard at random while in battle.
Splatfest changes.
- In calculating the final results, the winning percentage points (weight) has been changed from 2x to 4x.
Stage adjustments.
- Urchin Underpass: All modes (i.e. Turf War, Splat Zones, Tower Control), large-scale terrain changes.
- Saltspray Rig: Tower Control mode, adjusting certain stage elements.
- Arowana Mall: Splat Zones mode, adjusting certain stage elements.
- Kelp Dome: Splat Zones and Tower Control modes, adjusting certain stage elements.
- Moray Towers: Splat Zones and Tower Control modes, adjusting certain stage elements.
Special Weapon adjustments.
- Inkzooka: Increased the points of turf inked needed to fill the special gauge from 180p to 220p.
- Echolocator: Increased the points of turf inked needed to fill the special gauge from 180p to 200p.
- Killer Wail (the Japanese name for this one is megaphone laser. oh my god.) : Decreased the points of turf inked needed to fill the special gauge from 180p to 160p.
- In both cases these are the numbers without the "Special Charge Up" gear ability.
Sub Weapon adjustments.
- Splash Wall: The problem of a bomb directly hitting Splash Wall and the damage range not being calculated correctly has been fixed.
Gear Ability adjustments.
- Tenacity: Special Gauge will now start filling at the start of a match even before the player starts to ink ground if there is a disparity between the number of players on teams.
- Special Charge Up: When wearing a lot of Special Charge Up gear, there is a more consistent increase when inking ground. There was a slight difference in the special gauge increase when inking ground little by little versus inking ground a lot at a time. It now increases an amount proportional to the area inked regardless to the method of inking.
Match-related sound effect adjustments.
- The Inkstrike can now be better heard from the left, right, and behind.
- Some of the long-ranged weapons' hit sounds will now be easier to hear from farther away.
Other
- Other adjustments to the game have been made so players may have a more pleasant experience.
Which changes stand out in your eyes? Drop a comment below to tell us what you think, and if any of the alterations might change which weapon you pick, or how you view the game itself.

Megaphone laser. Oh my god.
@RupeeClock what megaphone laser? o.o
Damn... my hopes of some regional matchmaking so I can finally have a game without 6 or 7 japanese guys and the crazy lag that brings have been dashed...
Sigh
Suppose I'll carry on only playing on Splatfests then :/
"After inking up with friends, you can then ink up with your friends' friends[...]"
No stats screen
I wish I could play Splatoon.
@Peanutosan What do you have against playing with Japanese Players?
EDIT I missed the part about lag, I guess thats understandable.
@Isadais Nothing at all other than the fact I lag like mad when the majority of the players in a game are japanese which seems to happen 9 times out of 10 no matter what time I play. Sick of getting killed by someone I killed up to 5 seconds before.
I'm sure they all enjoy me lagging like mad on their end too hahaha.
That's why I think the best thing about Splatfests is the fact they do it by region. Can actually have some good games
Please tell me that you're going to be able to play with more than just 1 friend on one TV.
@Peanutosan I don't think it's the games fault as much as your internet sucking. I have had almost no issues...I can think of 2 times maybe I lagged in the 30 or so hours I've played. I just wish for local private matches with bots. That would make this game perfect.
So there won't be S- Rank, and I won't be able to increase my Rank via Squad Battles/Tag Matches from A+? That's kinda boring. At least one can farm money easily via those modes
Wednesday in Europe? I thought the update was coming on the 6th
Nerfing out my Inkzooka!? Arrrrrgh!!!!!
... otherwise, I'm cool with everything.
Looks like a good update. Shame I won't be using the Tag mode as I don't have any friends that play Splatoon.
I am a little surprised they changed the level only to 50, 100 or more seems more appropriate.
@Donutman Yup... I was waiting on someone to blame me rather than the fact that the vast majority of matches I have are with 7 people thousands of miles away.
When I'm playing europeans (and quite a lot of people I'm assuming are americans actually) it's pretty much fine. Plus other games are nowhere near as bad.
If you don't have problems I'm genuinely happy for you... but there's a lot of folk having the same issues as me.
Some great additions there that i can't wait to try out but one glaring omission,no map rotation increase. If it's not being added in the big update I can't see us ever getting it.
I wish I could take advantage of the private match sessions. Unfortunately I only know 1 other person with a Wii U
I honestly wish that ranked battle didn't switch modes every other hour. I'm fine with the stages that do that but honestly the modes? It's kinda been what's keeping me from starting it up. I've been very busy and don't have time to just log in to see the current rotation
Killer Wail was already my favourite for Tower Control. Now I get to use it 11% more often
The 2 vs 2 vs 2 vs 2 portion has made me lose it. <333
Do you gain points and cash in private mode?
"The method for calculating rank points (+/- 10, 8, 12, etc.) has been modified."
Modified in what way!? That's very vague.
Sounds like the game's taking a few steps up. With this update, I dare say Splatoon is ready for universal recommendations! Now, if you'll excuse me, it's time for me to prepare my clan...
SPLATOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!
Mr. Powers, you'll notice that all the Megaphones have laser beams attached to them!
Now if they could add the option of sending friend requests to people in your plaza. Getting people for private matches would be so much easier.
@Zekrom025 wich one is it then?
Thursday 6th...
Or wednesday 5th...
@abbyhitter u can kinda do that from friend list. There is section where u can see people u have played with lately. And those people who u played with will be in the plaza.
@JMR_Alden
Totally Agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Will the friends thing make it harder for forever-alones like me to get a random match up?
Nerfing the inkzooka seems like a good move, echolocator nerf seems harsh since that tends to be on worser weapons anyway, and the buff to megaphone laser wasn't needed (they're super annoying!!)
You got the dates wrong @Damo. It's Wednesday and Thursday.
@Tobo9279
You are right, this game needs some local multiplayer added to online to be amazing
@Spoony_Tech Apologies, fixed!
@Rhydas
It's more like 4v4, with each team of four consisting of two teams of two.
@Shiryu I'm glad they buffed the "Megaphone Laser" I love using it in Tower Control
I want to play Tower Control and Splat Zones without being a ranked match. Add a 3rd map to the rotation ( anything besides Morey Towers. That map is hot garbage). I'm excited for the update and the Splatfest calculation is a nice change as well. A team should not win because it's more popular with the voters. I'd like to hear more about the rainmaker mode too. I know it's not in this update but the more gaming options, the better. MOAR SPLATOON !!!
I also echo the comments of others regarding matchmaking with only Japanese players. This happens all the time and I would prefer a more regional setting.
Thank you Nintendo!
Lately I can't seem to stay in a match more then a minute and even if I do the lag is horrible. Wondering if my internet is behaving badly or if everyone is having connection issues? Don't really wanna call the cable company but maybe I need them to semd me a new router?
I hope they improve the FPS for the hub world. It's always jarring when going back to it from a match.
May actually get around to playing this again, if only for the Splatfest.
@thehappyjack Totally agree.
I'm liking all these updates, but if I can't talk with my friends while playing, whats the point?
Great, I'm happy they're adjusting the maps and some of their features in modes.
Edit: Also I guess that they actually listened to complaints about the ranking up system and leveling up system, since they are adjusting it. I still am waiting for some weapon adjustments though.
Urchin Underpass changes? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I love that map, and still remains my favourite alongside Camp Triggerfish. I don't see why it needs changing. Ahhhhh......
It's awesome to see that Nintendo is finally focusing more on balancing their games for online play.
Megaphone laser? So zetta slow!
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY DATA!!! ;-;
@Quirky @CTs_Lieutenant I'm with you there guys, don't know anyone with a Wii U, other than one dude that doesn't play Splatoon.
Wanna form a loner squad? Though I must warn you: I, my wife and my son all play and our abilities are, erm... mixed haha
@Spoony_Tech There ya go, complaining about the dates again. Wait, that's my job.
One little bitty thing I'd really like for them to add is Callie and Marie giving us the ranked mode. Seems like it's always splat zone, I haven't played tower control in weeks, at least let the cute squid let me know which one it is while I'm sitting thru all their jokes.
Obviously best case is let us choose, run them both, but until then we really should be told at boot up.
@CTMike - I'm up for that. In ranked battles I'm hovering between -B & B. I lost 80 points in one session so I decided to leave it until the update arrives.
How does one invite friends?
"In calculating the final results, the winning percentage points (weight) has been changed from 2x to 4x."
Now people can't use the excuse of losing by popularity... often.
@Iggly Nah, now people will start saying that popularity shouldn't count at all, or that popularity should count for more.
@CTs_Lieutenant I think it's just adding the NNID but I'm not even sure what mine is off the top of my head haha. Can you PM on here? Maybe send me your NNID?
That's open to anyone else on here who doesn't mind playing with randoms: at least we'd become less random! I think the NL community is pretty cool so I'm all for building NL squads
Looking forward to this just because now I can guarantee I will be playing with a balanced squad.
@FragRed You can set Private Mode to play in 1vs1, and you can team up with that 1 friend as a 2-player team.
@Iggly I think that's one of the best changes in this update. If a less popular side wins the majority of their matches, there should at least be some theoretical chance of that side to win the Splatfest.
Wow, all of those changes sound really great! Can't wait for the update.
But this made me wonder:
"If your rank changes while in the middle of playing ranked battles, you will be sent back to the lobby."
How can your rank change during battle? Or is this going against some kind of cheating?
@rjejr: That sounds like you always play at the same hours of the day. The modes/maps change every four hours, so maybe you need a different timeslot. But I second you about the info thing, when I boot up Splatoon, the first thing I want to know is which mode is up. The Callie & Marie screen is a bit annoying because it takes so long. Would be great if there was a Splatoon website where you could immediately see which modes and maps are up right now. Also, they could use that website for live-streams, like mariokart.tv.
@thehappyjack: You mean you have a low rate of frames-per-second in Inkopolis? That sounds more like a local performance problem. How much space do you have left on the system memory? Inkopolis is always fluid in my experience and I doubt it has something to do with the internet connection.
@Gerbwmu: Nope, don't have that problem at all (EU). The only lag I experienced so far is the ink you've sprayed appearing a few seconds later. But that rarely happens.
@shigulicious: Why that? If it's not a ranked match, people have less to lose. This means people don't give it their best. Honestly, what I love the most about Splat Zones/Tower Control, is that it's harder and way more serious than Turf War. People put more effort in it because of the rank and don't quit matches while their running. If it wouldn't be ranked, it would be just a boring newbee mode like Turf War is. Everytime I play Turf War (like when a new map is released) I'm disappointed, because either the players (your team and the opponents alike) are acting like fools (no matter what level they're on) or because they leave the game.
@sizelando: Well we'll see when the update is live. Just be patient.
@Pierson: Yeah I'd wish for the same although I have to say, It doesn't bother me that much anymore since I like both Splat Zones and Tower Control. It onl bugged when Tower Control was new and I wanted to try it out.
@Peanutosan: What, 6 or 7 japanese guys? I never had that. I mean, when I play late in the middle of the night (EU), there are more japanese, american and chinese players, like in Mario Kart. But even then I experienced no lag. What kind of internet connection do you use? Maybe a botnet is messing up your internet connection.
@shani It's referring to the situation where you rank up after a ranked match ends.
@Jazzer94 But why is it saying "while in the middle of playing"? And even if you're right, I don't understand the change exactly. Every ranked match changes you rank. Does this mean that you're sent back to the lobby after every ranked match and can't play them consecutively? That would make no sense.
@shani At the most, every 10th match or something would result in an actual change of rank (such as going from B to B+). It's a good change, since bad-players lobbies were used as a ranking-up tool.
Wish there was a local LAN mode (or local WiFi). I have two Wii U's and two copies of the game and it would be fun to have one on one or two on two local multiplayer between the two consoles.
@shani Middle of playing ranked battles not middle of playing a ranked battle, so if you go from A to A+ after a battle you will be sent back to the lobby.
@jariw Ah, after your comment I finally get it! For me, a rank is something like not A+, but A+ 30. So that's what I meant with the rank changing after every battle. After all, the number belongs to your rank. Someone with A+ 60 is ranked higher than someone with A+ 30.
I didn't have such an experience with bad-player lobbies in ranked battles (but in Turf War a lot of times), so I can't tell if it happens often or not. But what if I just found the right lobby with eight skilled players? Sometimes after a few matches, you know that on both sides there are good players to play with/against. For me, that's Splatoon at it's best. So now when my rank letter should change - or the rank letter of anyone in the lobby - me or they will be kicked out of the lobby? That's really a major deterioration! I can't imagine the benefit of this change exceeding the drawback.
Well then I guess I found the one thing that's really awful about this update.
@Jazzer94: I first read your comment in my emails and still didn't get it. But jariw's comment made it clear. Thanks anyway. ^^
@Nico07 You can just set up your own private online match with those two Wii U's. So there you go, it's a local multiplayer over an online connection.
@Sgt_Ludby Yeah I know. I wasn't confused or anything. Sorry for the confusion. I'm just excited for an almost-free-for-all type of match! It'll be very interesting - though it'll be so difficult to come out on top with four teams overall running around.
Sounds like a blast to me!
...can i haz squid girl gear now?...No?...Okies. TwT
Splatoon is the first game on the Wii U that in my opinion could and should make use of the Wii U's ability to link up to 2 gamepads on a single system. Nintendo has confirmed the Wii U is capable of this, but nothing yet has been made to take advantage of this. I think Splatoon could by allowing proper two player battles on or offline. The screen can be split like it is already in multiplayer mode, but all the features of utilizing the gamepad for jumping to places on the map or sending the ink explosion (forget the name of that weapon) where you please with the touch of your finger can be used by both players as well as the gyroscope if either player prefers that kind of aiming. This would allow 2 players on the same system to go online and still have full access to all the controls and features of Splatoon. Furthermore, given how little happens on the gamepad, I don't think this would be outside of the realm of possibilities.
I'm wondering what the change to the rank points is. I'd love it if it was something where your rank can very slowly increase if you win the same number of battles as you lose. For example, +11 for a win and -10 for a loss would be awesome.
Also, tag and private mode is going to be fantastic.
I just want more single player :/ I will gladly pay for it.
@AyeHaley I would love some Single Player dlc too. Although it is cool that they are updating, fixing, and improving the Multiplayer.
"There was a slight difference in the special gauge increase when inking ground little by little versus inking ground a lot at a time."
That's not just a matter of the special charge up, for what I saw the same happen in collecting points in Turf War, it would indeed explain while chargers barely does any point vs aerospray getting up to a thousand without even trying. I hope they fixed this completly, not just for the gear ability.
That said... what I most care about the update anyway is getting to try new weapons and gear, I leave nerfs and buffs to the "pro-gamers" XD
@BakaKnight They fixed the leveling up system to match Splatfest rules. Now instead of leveling up depending on the amount of turf covered, you level up from set points. It makes it a lot more fair.
I'm very happy that they're changing the Splatfest calculations. I've always thought that popularity shouldn't matter that much! I'm also glad they're raising the level cap.
Megaphone laser!
Why don't we get this awesomeness?!
I'm looking forward to the Splatfest changes and the gear, not a big fan of ranked matches, probably to do with the fact I got to B+70 and haven't won a game since, and there are only so many times you can be on the losing side before you have to pack it in no matter how hard you try, so turf war will be my hang out. Would like to see an update to map rotation such as a selection of four to go through that would take some of the monotony out of the equation
@FragRed I think you can join private lobbies freely unless it's password protected. At least, I hope so, or it would be seldomly used - how many people know 7 others with wiiu? Probably not a lot.
They should nerf the Dynamo roller. Way too much range! Plus, too many players cheesing the jump splash, and if their Japanese and they get some turbo boost from latency or lag or whatever - they're super annoying and kinda break the game. A geyser of ink with a range of a dual squelcher is super cheesy and not fun to play with. Fix it Nintendo!!! Plus, we need regional matches - the latency is making the game unplayable some nights.
@duffmmann The result of connecting 2 Gamepads is 30 fps, that's apparently one of the reasons why Nintendo never support it.
@shani - I honestly do not understand why there isn't a Splatoon website in each region where it lists the modes adn stages. I actually linked to 1 for awhile in the forum but the website stopped working. But there really should be an app for that. An app that lets you know what stages are up and has a spreadsheet component to track your stats. And if you sign in w/ your NNID it shows your basic info like rank, level and gear.
But a website w/ the info should have been standard at launch.
Id really like an option to put together gears and weapons in a class. I get tired of trying to remember what worked with certain weapons. Give me at least 5
@shani - Today I finally thought to shut off the WiFi on my Sony TV and Splatoon was quick, smooth, and no disconnections. Too many items connected to my WiFi or a Sony plot to destroy Nintendo?
Glad I've got it working again!
The tag battle mode sounds really well thou g html out. I can't wait!
@Gerbwmu Good to hear, I'm happy for you. Guess it's some kind of interference then. Happy splatting! ^^
@rjejr: Yeah well let's just hope they add that in the future, so far the devs have been quite responsive. Edit: Scratch that! Just googled and found this:
http://splatoon.ink
http://www.nintendo.co.jp/wiiu/agmj/stage/index.html
The first one shows the info in your timezone, but both should be correct. The official site shows the time in Japan, which seems to be seven hours ahead of Europe.
@shani You tease. The second one is in Japanese .
@Aromaiden I know, so what? The times are shown in Latin letters and they apply worldwide. And the stages are shown in the pictures.
You just have to convert the time into European (seven hours earlier) or American time (don't know).
Or do this http://en.lmgtfy.com/?q=japan+time and just compare it to your local time.
@shani I know, but I really want to know what the page was talking about. It looked like some sort of leader board.
@Aromaiden It is a leaderboard. You really don't need to know Japanese to read it. I surely don't know a word and still understand what it shows you. The page isn't saying anything, because there is no "text". It's just the names of the top ten users (from the respective timeslot) and the gear of the top three.
Ok there is a little bit of text (white on black background), but it's really just a fill-in. Of course you can let Google translate the whole page for you. But you won't get any additional insight.
Don't be so intimidated by foreign letters.
@shani It'd be amazing if Splatoon could integrate a leader board system; it seems like it would help push the competitive drive in ranked.
Anyways, thanks for the sites.
@Aromaiden Honestly, I wouldn't have looked for them if I hadn't read rjejr's comment. I was always kinda assuming there would be a leader board, because otherwise the rank system wouldn't make sense (rank->ranking->leaderboard) and because MK8 has it, too. But it would be nice if they would integrate it into the game for sure!
Or maybe there is and I haven't found it yet? After all, it took me ages (and the tip from a friend) to realize you could try out the current stages in the lobby. ^^
Great news!
In regards to this news, some of my splatting friends and I are trying to start a squad. We are thinking of calling ourselves The Squids on the New Block or SQUAD NAME: The Squids Next Door. We are looking for players rank B and up. If anyone's intersted, feel free to message me here or at my Wii U. My NNID is bryanlgamer.
@jariw I've heard this, but I question how true that is for every single title. I mean look at how little actually happens on the GamePad's screen. While I can understand how a game that is intensive in what it shows on both gamepads as well as on the tv (and if these are all different images at that) causing the frame rate to drop to 30 FPS. I honestly question if that is indeed the case in every scenario, would it really be true, for a game like Splatoon where what is being shown on the Gamepad isn't intensive, and what you'd see on both gamepads would typically stay just about the same for both players (with minor alterations), if that too would cause the frame rate to cut in half. I could see the frame rate dropping a little bit in such a case, maybe down to as much as 50 FPS, but it just doesn't seem logical or likely that such a case would result in 30 FPS like Nintendo had claimed. It is my belief that Nintendo only said that as the most extreme example of what could happen with 2 gamepads connected, not necessarily true of every single title.
Now, I admit I don't know, and Nintendo could be dead on about what they said, its just that knowing them, and thinking about this particular situation that leaves me questioning how true that claim really is.
Ah well, I think we will eventually see 2 gamepads supported on the Wii U, but it will probably be figured out and implemented by hackers before Nintendo ever officially does it. When the hacking scene does make that a possibility, I'm sure we'll finally get an idea of just how much 2 gamepads really would affect gameplay based on what is being played.
Another example is where the screen is just mirroring what is on your tv, I really really doubt that having 2 gamepads mirror that would cut the frame rate down to 30 FPS, that just doesn't seem very logical to me, but I could be dead wrong. This would be great for a game like Super Mario 3D World though because both gamepads mirroring the TV means two people could play multiplayer without even having the TV on the Wii U input.
@rjejr Hopefully more of those stats updates through an app will come once the new account system is in place. Should be easy at that point except for the massive amount of requests once everyone has it on their phones.
Those were the types of apps I was expecting before they announced the plan to go with original games.
@duffmmann @jariw
Play Sonic Racing. It's a marked difference. In an online competition game like Splatoon any performance drop is almost debilitating but certainly infuriating for anyone who cares about rank, etc.
Not saying I don't want to have two GamePads or even just a way to play two player online with one person using the TV screen and a ProController Wii Remote combo, and one using the GamePad, just saying that it would be quite a challenge to pull off at acceptable performance. I wouldn't want to lose any detail or framerate myself but it would be so much fun to team up locally.
The chances of two GamePad use are near none, though. It's too late in the Wii U life to start selling a standalone GamePad for just one or two games before switching over to NX (if it is the Wii U replacement).
That's partly why my dream NX scenario is one in which the portable can double up as a "gamepad" for the console and it is the ultimate bring everything together around the TV machine for 5 or 6 players all but one on portables in many games (Mario Kart, Smash, Zelda Six Swords, Animal Crossing, and of course, Splatoon). A dream it remains.
@AyeHaley I'm loving the multiplayer but I'd also pay for single-player dlc gladly. it's clever and fun. Maybe a sequel will have a longer campaign if we never get it for this one. Did you do all the challenges via Amiibo? That's one way to pay for more single-player. Even though it's challenges on the same stages it plays differently. But, yeah, not the same.
@Aromaiden Your right about experience, even if, of all the things points influence in Turf War, that was the only one I didn't consider ^_^;
For example points influence the special gauge and are even used at the end of the match for rank players. I'm aware the first can be considered a balance thing while the latter means nothing in gameplay afterall, but in my opinion a little fix to the difference between inking little by little versus inking ground a lot at a time is needed in the core of the game, not just in the gear's skill the update mention.
@aaronsullivan You have any experience w/ Project Spark on Win 8.1? It's like Disney Infinity w/ generic fantasy instead of licenses that is supposed to teach you coding. My kids just started w/ it yesterday and so far so good. If you have younger kids kodu is the way to go for beginners.
Please NURF the rollers. They are way way OP.
@Damo I have a very important question for you. It involves Jez San. I saw that you did an article on him a while back. Is there any way we can talk privately? This is incredibly important to me. Please reply.
Nintendo really needs to add local online multiplayer.
Seriously, it's ticking me off.
@Peanutosan Get A USB to ethernet adapter, I was lagging like crazy, so I got one and haven't had anything on my end since
@rjejr You know I haven't used either of those but l'll check them out. I'll be working with construct 2 because the college I'm teaching at uses it in one class as part of an intro to game development process. Haven't decided how to introduce my kids to programming in depth, but probably a mix of command line with a regular IDE and Unity for fun. But I teach this stuff for a living and even more game-oriented at my new job starting this fall
Let me know how they like it!
@CTMike I don't think you can send direct messages here. There's a space in the nintendolife profile for Nintendo Network ID and I've added mine there!
@aaronsullivan - I wish you were teaching their class. They spent the first 45 minutes downloading the game Project Spark b/c it wasn't on the PC they were using. Then after installing they spent 30 minutes going thru the tutorial, then they just told them to do whatever they want. It was a complete waste of time, and it's a 30 minute drive each way for me. Then $3.29 each for 2 pretezels at Aunt Em's in the mall. At least they got t-shirts out of it. Last day today, hopefully it will go better.
@rjejr Auntie Ann's pretzels? Just say it's Aunt Em's because the last time you name dropped a food franchise I was familiar with we went there twice. Lol.
You know, I haven't cracked the way to teach younger kids yet. I haven't been satisfied with anything I've tried out casually. I'm going to give it a go very soon and I'll let you know if I discover anything.
I'm guessing I'm going to like just going right to the code and understanding that first. If a kid can find the reward in a text-based environment and see how their code works there they can apply that to anything. Can be harder to get the initial motivation going that way of course.
