It's Media Create chart results time in Japan, and after a debut week at number one for The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes and plenty of Nintendo platform releases close behind, the latest results show new titles on rival platforms taking over the top spots.
We already highlighted that Tri Force Heroes has struggled to re-create the sales numbers of its main-series predecessor The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, and this is borne out by fairly weak second week sales that see the multiplayer-focused title shift just 19,499 extra units. The software top 20 is quiet for Nintendo, overall, with evergreen games still occupying decent places; lifetime sales are in brackets.

- [3DS] Pro Yakyuu Famista Returns (Bandai Namco, 10/08/15) – 4,026 (42,447)
The hardware results don't bring much change from last week, with the PS Vita gaining the most but the New Nintendo 3DS LL (XL) also showing improvement in holding second place. PS4 still has the overall lead as it continues to benefit from recent releases and a price cut, and Wii U is down in four figures once again; the results below have last week's sales in brackets.
- PlayStation 4 – 22,104 (22,801)
- New 3DS LL – 16,824 (16,144)

A fairly uneventful week for Nintendo, though it's certainly encouraging to see solid momentum for the 3DS.

There are really no surprises here, considering the style of gameplay, I'd say considering that, it's doing quite well. Sad, Halo cannot even get past happy home designer, oh well it tried I guess.
Japan really likes those God Eater games it looks like. I also find it interesting that it sold so well on vita. (I know handhelds are more loved there but it sold a lot more than the ps4 versions).
Ah! So that's why there was a massive bump in xbone sales last week (compared to every other week). I'd say shops in Japan reduced the price of the system in preparation for the release of Halo 5 since its in the charts there.
I want God Eater. Never played the franchise but what I've read and even just the name of it has me sold on it
It is weird why Sony quit support to Vita, it sells well and its games too. Bad for Sony and their incapacity to use the Vita functions. Do they need Nintendo to show how to use their own system?
Where's FE FATES???????? Did it reach a million in Japan yet?
@readyletsgo I was about to say "Dat name doh" but then I saw this
I guess that all of us who wanted a single player Zelda game have given this one a miss. Yet again Nintendo miss judged its market.
Even my local Game store is not selling physical copies of the game.
@RoomB31 "Sad, Halo cannot even get past happy home designer"
Halo did better than HHD when you look at install base, which is a fair metric.
HDD is about 5% (1mil copies on 20 mil Japanse 3DS),
Halo is about 15% (7k copies on 55,000 X1).
So Halo is actually doing 3x better than HHD.
Anybody know the holiday Wii U release line-up in Japan? Are they getting AC:aF and Mario Tennis when the west does? They already got XCX months ago, wondering what could move some Wii U there. If anything. I think they need the price cut more than we do.
@rjejr They have SMTxFE in December. That might move a few systems. More than Mario Tennis at least.
@IceClimbers "SMTxFE in December"
Oh, thought that was early next year. Maybe that's the west time frame.
Dec 26th, day after Christmas, only Nitneod. Should still move a few consoles for the holidays. If they advertise in Japan before Christmas day.
Slightly off topic, but has anyone from Europe managed to get the Super Mario Maker update? I've shaken a sign as much as I can, but no checkpoint forms... It makes me sad...
@dadajo It's a hunting RPG, which do fairly well with the Vita crowd in all territories, so it's not particularly surprising that it outsold the PS4 version nearly 5:1.
@readyletsgo it's a fairly interesting series that Bandai Namco is seemingly afraid of localising due to the first game being a PSP release in 2011. In other words - it sold very poorly to very little fanfare, anybody interested likely pirated it due to the PSP being hacked wide open. It's a shame, but perfectly understandable when you assume they likely took a big hit on localising the first game and are yet to see returns.
@Artwark
Fire Emblem Fates has sold around 500k in Japan. It will probably not be able to sell 1 million, unless its legs and digital sales are amazing.
Nevertheless, the game is already the 2nd best selling FE game in the franchise's history.
@zool it's s fun game. Since launch, I play 3-4 dungeons a night. I am still making my way through lb2w for the 4th time when I'm not playing tri force. It is not meant to be a single player game. I loved playing 4swords, this is just as good, but has online so it's better.
@Donutman I guess its got its fans, like Splatoon has. But there are a lot of disappointed single game players who did not bother with it.
@dadajo
Japan enjoys playing these Monster Hunter type games when meeting up with friends, so it only makes sense for it to sell better on Vita.
@DarkEdi
They know how to use their console just fine, they just need lessons on how to NOT GIVE UP at the first sign of trouble.
@zool they way I see it, they can complain all they want but I don't hear them. How many single player Zelda games have we gotten since the last multiplayer one? I played 4 swords mostly on GameCube. So count how many ds Zeldas, 3ds, wii original titles, not ports since. Tp, ss, lb2w, I think 2 on ds but I only played phantom hourglass. Couldn't get into touch screen controls for it.
I can honestly say today, I don't need another new game in any series. I could play Zelda games for the rest of my gaming life and be content with past and future Zelda games. It's by far my fav series and I love what tri force heroes is. Not complaining about what i hoped it would be. but enjoying all of the different Zelda games over the years. They all the different and the same. And if you count the recent ports, oot, mm, ww, and old school Zelda games, there are 2 with multiplayer. Just like the new metroid ff, I can not wait to play it. And I'll replay prime series on my wii u and enjoy a new expierence in one of my fav series as well.
@Donutman Well at least I'll have someone to play Federation Force with
@Donutman I am not against Nintendo releasing the occasional multiplayer game, even though I don't play them.
But while there are not enough single player games available (ok this is partly due to the lack of third party releases) this is not the time for Nintendo to be experimenting, all their effort should be in producing single player games, or at lease a multiplayer game with a good single player option.
As I said above the Game Store in the UK only stock physical copies of games that they think will sell. This game is not even on sale in their shop. So they do not consider this to be a game that will sell well.
Had Nintendo taken a little more time and included a good single player option the sales would have doubled. Instead they included a rushed and not very good (according to reviews) single player mode (like they did with Splatoon). They seem more interested in the revenue from Amiibos than the sales of the game.
Apart from a once every console, 'new' Mario platformer, Mario Kart and a Zelda game, most Nintendo gamers would be just as happy with a playstation.
Nintendo's Home console future, without any third party help will become a console for children, young gamers, families and toy collectors. The more serious gamer will look elsewhere.
Go Tri Force Heroes! I hope it could have legs over the holiday. Overall, a slow week but isn't really bad for Nintendo.
Xbox One though, I don't know why they keep trying anymore. Even with Halo 5...
I always knew God Eater would someday be as big as Monster Hunter. I sure wish it would come to 3DS.
XBoxOne is Doomed!
@kiigu yeah they should just give it up in Japan for XBoxOne. I think Japanese loyalty will always prevail for consoles in its home country. I personally don't care for XBox360 or XboxOne but my son has it and I've watched him play some games. It's not a bad console. I will never own it myself. Nor PlayStation 4. I'm at the point I live and die by Nintendo. I'm so worried about Nintendo jumping into the Android Market. If they make as much as everyone thinks bthey will in that market we may see the death of Nintendo consoles. That can do it cheaper and make more money. I'm worried that's going to happen
