Amazon has released its 2017 video game best sellers list and the top three titles are all on Switch, amazingly.
Super Mario Odyssey is number one, with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Zelda: Breath of the Wild following up in second and third position respectively.
Elsewhere, Splatoon 2 is number 7 while Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon occupy 8th and 9th place. Finally, we have the Wii U version of Breath of the Wild bringing up the rear - vindicating Nintendo's decision to release the game on its outgoing console.
- Super Mario Odyssey (Switch)
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch)
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch)
- Horizon Zero Dawn (PS4)
- Call of Duty: WWII (PS4)
- Call of Duty: WWII (Xbox One)
- Splatoon 2 (Switch)
- Pokemon Ultra Sun (3DS)
- Pokemon Ultra Moon (3DS)
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Wii U)
The Switch has had an incredible year but seeing four of its games make Amazon's top 10 amid intense competition really hits it home.

Good to see Nintendo back on top!
2017 was a good year for Nintendo. I hope they can keep learning and improve in 2018.
Wow, 7 of the 10 titles are Nintendo games. I'm not a fan of HZD, but I'm glad that's up there because otherwise, PS4 and XBO would only make the top10 list with call of duty.
100% Agree
I find the placing for Mario Odyssey and Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon kind of surprising since they came out so late in the year. Not a bad thing by any means, just surprising considering BotW had a six month head start.
Great job for Super Mario Odyssey !
But i Really Really HATE for number 5 & 6.
Not surprised. Good job Nintendo. What really surprised me was that BotW was third and not even second at least.
8 of these games were exclusives, 7 of these games were nintendo games.
All 10 had a single player campaign from wich 7 had major focus on single player and 4 didn’t even have competitive multiplayer.
And even the big multi platform multiplayer game was a great comeback for it’s series (also COD WWII handled lootboxes in a great way, making them easily accesible for non payers and having the option to buy lootbox loot seperate hand picked giving you the option to only buy what you want)
All 10 of these games deserved the top 10, yes even COD.
"vindicating Nintendo's decision to release the game on its outgoing console"
What? The vindication comes now from Amazon sales?? Not releasing a finished WiiU game would have been a slap in the face for all Nintendo fans. Just because Nintendo (and Nintendolife) ditched the WiiU very fast, doesn't mean that all consoles stopped working.
@SanderEvers
Oh, please DON'T ever mention those damn games to me.
You know i really HATE those games.
@Chandlero The fact that it made the Amazon top 10 would suggest that it sold very well, which vindicates Nintendo's decision to release it on the Wii U as well as the Switch.
@Damo: Of course, BotW sold very well on WiiU but maybe this did hurt Switch sales of BotW and the console at launch? You knows.
The original article I read also stated the Switch was the number 1 selling console for the year as well.
@Anti-Matter
You and me both. A waste of developers time and resources.
Worth mentioning this is specifically in the US. For example, the UK is very different, with Fifa in there. I suspect much of Europe to be similar.
I hope that this trend continues this year! Would love for developers to make more games to capitalize on the growing user base!
@Anti-Matter
It's really time to give it a rest, mate. I don't care much for dancing or rhythm games, but I don't post a negative comment in every single related article. People enjoy different things... is that really such a revelation?
Only Super Mario Odyssey is a real Switch game on that list.
Wow, good stuff. These are games that will literally never stop selling either, over the lifetime of the Switch. Almost every new owner is gonna want at least one of them.
@Anti-Matter
Grow up.
@Anti-Matter As soon as a Switch Call of Duty is announced you'll love it. xD
@Ooyah that question has been asked to @anti-matter many, many times in the past months. I'm convinced he's just not capable of understanding somehow. It seems pointless to even try and correct him.
Makes me think that Nintendo gamers are more apt to buy on Amazon than people who play PS4 or XBox One. Makes sense, too. Whenever I’m in Gamestop (a scenario I try to avoid if I can) it’s largely filled with people buying anything but Nintendo games.
Nintendo domination both in Japan and the US of A. !
@SanderEvers Splatoon 2 is Splatoon 1. Looks exactly the same with a little tweak here and there.
@Nincompoop Have you played it? I will assume not because if you had then you would clearly know Splatoon 2 is not Splatoon 1 and does not look exactly the same with a little tweak here and there.
@SanderEvers
I play A LOT of Rhythm games such as Dance Dance Revolution, Para Para Paradise, Mai Mai SEGA + Life Simulation such as Animal Crossing New Leaf, The Sims series. Very Opposite with typical male gamers that adore Tension and Actions, i adore Quiet, Colorful, Fancy, Cute games, with Less Actions.
And that's determine what games that i want to buy and play.
@URAmk2
Oh, No Thanks.
I don't play Splatoon 2, even for Cartoonish Shooting games.
FPS / Shooting genre are Taboo or Restricted genre for me.
@Kingrat
Yo, what's up ?
That's my choice, dude.
I determine what i Love and what i Hate.
@Bliquid
"Hate is a strong word, often mishandled for the sake of drama.
If you don’t like something, be sure that hating it (or pretending to) won’t make it, or the world, any better."
When i hate something, i Really Really HATE 100%, And NEVER Pretending to like it. I will show my Extreme Disgust feeling toward them.
@Anti-Matter
Of course, it is entirely up to you what you choose to like or dislike and I would never suggest otherwise. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion - what I and others on here find annoying is the extremely childish and single-minded way in which you express that opinion.
For the record, i'm not a huge fan of CoD either, and I enjoy Rhythm Paradise, Animal Crossing etc. as will a lot of the readers on here. Why you feel the need to denounce everything you personally dislike every time it gets so much as a mention is the problem here.
You can dislike something without pooping all over it and you can like something without constantly going on about it, regardless of the context of the article you mention it in. It's not your opinions that people get annoyed at, just the hypocritical and constant way in which you voice those opinions, so I say again, Grow up.
@Kingrat
"extremely childish and single-minded way in which you express that opinion."
But, because of that, i feel secured by "something" that shaped me to be a Different gamer. I felt blessed and granted to have that flaws attitude, the childish mindset that protected me from those Rated 18+ things. I think i have to thank to God that create me with some flaws that shaped me to be a Different people.
Honestly, if i was born with those gamers mindset, i would rather killing myself and never want to live due to all those Sins.
@Anti-Matter
"Honestly, if i was born with those gamers mindset, i would rather killing myself and never want to live due to all those Sins."
Wow don't kill your self man. Keep it as a hobby. Have fun or try a different hobby
@OorWullie I never played it, but I watched people playing it on Youtube. Looks like a DLC, not a new version. Compared MarioKart on Wii and Wii U, you see a difference... that is a real new release.
This is impressive. Take a look at that best sellers list on Amazon (follow the link below article above) and it's a bit more interesting. The list is actually dominated by PS4 gift cards. Just saying. Still amazing, but there are no Switch gift cards in there, so Sony people getting Plus memberships as Holiday gifts? Buying games digitally because they have the extra hard drive space? Not sure, but it paints a slightly different picture than this list.
Also, the number of choices for this system has been limited throughout 2017... many amazing and two exclusive game of the year candidates, but still less of a choice, which helps, too.
But then, you see, the Switch itself is in this same list!
It's all very impressive no matter how you slice it
@Bliquid
I have RIGHTS to Hate something, especially to protect myself and other peoples from bad things.
I also Hate smokers or smoking, Liar, Faker, Guns, Psychopats, Evil women, etc.
@1UP_MARIO
"Wow don't kill your self man. Keep it as a hobby. Have fun or try a different hobby"
Oh, i should killing myself if i am a rated 18+ gamer. I will hate myself for all those Sins. I'm serious. No joking.
@Anti-Matter I’m a pretty big religious person too but I wouldn’t consider playing Call of Duty a sin unless it actually causes you to sin in the REAL world.
@Anti-Matter
Seriously, if you make mistakes one day, don't give up. There's forgiveness and moving on.
Also, these comments of yours and the replies are getting into some differences that are personal and likely going to inflame emotions around here without much gain for anyone. So, carefully choosing words is important.
For instance, to single out "Evil women" instead of things that people do that you consider evil is going to be considered inflammatory and sexist by most. I think I know what you are getting at but I suspect there are some cultural and religious or spiritual nuances here that are going to be hard to communicate effectively across cultures and belief systems.
My own two cents for you: Hate the lie, not the liar. We all fall short from time to time and things are rarely as black and white (simply good and evil) as we think they should be.
Certainly, experience and studies show us that adults have played games with violent use of guns and live quite normal lives with little or no influence on their pacifist behavior or beliefs. Less effect even than people who play sports and are injured physically and suffer mental illness that changes their behavior more seriously.
If you want to discuss kids and their impressionable nature without the ability or the will to carefully understand how their actions are effecting their desires and tendencies — why they benefit from parental guidance — that's another story.
@aaronsullivan
Um...
I mean, for "Evil Women", i mean the women that behave very mean, like Psychopat. Did you know Soraya from Telenovela Maria la del Bario ? That b#### is the Evil woman i meant.
Also, i have ever got bullied when i was kid by a tomboy girl , my classmate by put me a little bit of UHU glue on my Hair. A Glue on my hair !
Nintendo is even taking over the juggernaut that is Amazon! (In the games department, at least) Here's to hoping that 2018 is another solid year.
@aaronsullivan Sony payment system for PSN sucks to the point where it would reject your credit/debit card for no clear reason. This, people buying the cards from a third party vendor such as Amazon.
@Nincompoop Splatoon 2 is very much a real Switch game as well. Unless you're not counting sequels for some reason, as which, you can remove the Call of Duty games, and most other games as well. Even most new IPs are just old IPs with a new coat of paint.
But, speaking of Splatoon 2 specifically, they did everything a sequel should. New single player campaign, new multiplayer modes, new weapons, new gear, hair styles, new specials, new maps, shop for gear that changes throughout the day on your phone, ability chunks, change gear between matches. What more do you want in a sequel?
It did this on a supply constrained console with a fraction of the userbase the PS4 and Xbox One have. That's the impressive part. Of course in the case of Breath of the Wild, Odyssey and Mario Kart 8 we're talking about some of the best games ever made but it's still impressive. Splatoon 2 sneaking in there is awesome because while it's a great game it's also one of Nintendo's more 'B' tier titles (could change in the future) compared to those other 3 but it still managed to find an audience. As the userbase grows it'll be interesting to see how Switch games, particularly from third parties, perform. We know any Marios or Zeldas will almost always sell well.
@Nincompoop
Ahahahahahahahaha
Go Breath of the wild Wii u, the real version!!
