Minecraft is becoming a pretty nifty way to see your favourite characters from rival platforms have a presence on the latest Nintendo hardware; back in January we saw Banjo-Kazooie return to our screens (albeit in blocky form), and we recently found out that playing the game on Switch can net you Xbox Live achievements. Happy days.
Now, with the latest update for Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition and Minecraft: Wii U Edition, players will be able to roam their favourite sandbox environments as Final Fantasy XV stars Noctis, Gladio, Ignis, Prompto, and many more, venturing beyond the world of Eos and into the untold realms of the Minecraft universe thanks to a new skin pack. This pack should be available to purchase from today.
The update has also addressed an incredibly specific crashing issue which, almost comically, would only be triggered when players looked at a cauldron while holding a water bottle obtained by fishing.
Do you play Minecraft on the go on your Switch? Or do you perhaps still enjoy some exploration on Wii U? Let us know down below.

Sure would be nice to have an actual Final Fantasy game on a current Nintendo console to, oh I don’t know, make this feel relevant. But cool for Minecraft. At least they get it.
Finally, my dreams have come true...
so, does this mean were getting Minecraft on the original PlayStation?
So this is what that tease was about...
Random crossover but who's complaining?
@Captain_Toad Someone will knowing the Nintendo community.
People buy these? They barely look like the characters to be honest
Now we need a mod with the full storyline from FF15 in minecraft
I guess this would make up for their failed attempt at bringing the actual garbage to Switch.
Boy, they do love to shove FFXV down our throats any time the opportunity arises.
It's almost like playing final fantasy on the switch! Almost.
RIP Minecraft New 3DS.
Huh ?!
Pretty cool. Haven't played Final Fantasy XV myself though.
Is this seriously what Square Enix was referring to with that "Rhymes with Twitch" tease from last year!?
Still play Minecraft on WiiU but haven't actually bought anything for it. Is this just skins or does it include texture packs and pre made worlds??
Nice, now how about Chrono Trigger, FFVI, FFVII, FFI, and DQ8?
@bluemage1989 I haven't checked this, but the game-centric packs tend to include maps.
The in-game description should mention it.
@Meowpheel I will check it when back home should really buy some.
Does anyone think its worth upgrading to the Switch version. I play 99% of the time docked so portability isn't a big issue for me and to be honest I don't really keep up to date with the franchises news. I like the game but only play casually lols even still playing the same map I've been playing for a year at least now.
@bluemage1989 Switch will get Bedrock and the better together update. Which is basically the same version of minecraft you can get on mobile and windows 10.
It mostly means better online multiplayer and, I believe it will get the super duper graphics pack too. It will probably be supported with updates longer than the WiiU.
The basic switch version runs a bit better than on the WiiU, the maps are bigger, and it also supports 1080p, which means it looks slightly better on the TV.
Aside from that it is basically the same game.
Meh. I'd honestly rather have a Final Fantasy game on Switch. But hey, I wont complain about new content on the off chance I start playing Minecraft again.
@Winklebottom hey random question about your profile pic, what is that from?
@Socia Starcraft II
Still waiting for the cross-platform update. I want to play with my friends.
