The latest batch of My Nintendo game discounts for Europe has now gone live, and this time Nintendo has been a little bit sneaky. Well, pretty clever actually.
We're sure you already know this by now, but it was just revealed that a gorgeous looking remake of the Game Boy classic The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening will be coming to Nintendo Switch this year. If you're looking to play the original before the big release, this will absolutely be your best chance to do it.
The DX version of the game, available on 3DS Virtual Console, can now be snapped up at 50% off thanks to My Nintendo (that means it's just £2.69 / €2.99). As always, you can take advantage of these discounts by simply using the required Gold or Platinum My Nintendo Points listed below.
- [3DS] 30% off Puzzle & Dragons Z + Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition: 90 Gold Points
- [3DS] 50% off The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX (Virtual Console GBC): 30 Gold Points
- [3DS] 40% off Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (Virtual Console GB): 50 Platinum Points
- [3DS] 40% off Hana Samurai: Art of the Sword: 90 Platinum Points
- [Wii U] 20% off Dr. Luigi: 100 Platinum Points
- [Wii U] 40% off Star Fox 64 (Virtual Console N64): 40 Gold Points
- [Wii U] 40% off Fire Emblem (Virtual Console GBA): 30 Gold Points
- [Wii U] 50% off Big Brain Academy (Virtual Console DS): 35 Gold Points
Some pretty decent offers here this time around. Note that the Zelda discount only costs 30 of your Gold Points, too.
Will you be taking advantage of any of these offers? Remember, your Gold Points can also be spent on Switch software directly from the eShop or a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, too.

Good timing Nintendo, wanna know what would be just that much better? My Nintendo rewards on Switch.
I love how these are described as "other great rewards". Nintendo has such potential with this service, I really wish they'd do more, how the hell is Switch still not a part of it 2 years after launch?
maybe it's my pessimist side talking here but I hate it when an award is that I get to buy something.
This makes me realize they are going to charge $60 for Link's Awakening on Switch, likely.
I have the original on cartridge and this is nice but I want the DX version on cartridge too.
Are the GB games upscaled on the 3DS vc?
Do they look nicer on the 3DS than on GBA SP for example?
@justin233 I find that unlikely. I'm certain it's a €40 title.
If I could use silver coins it would have been nice.
@Zuljaras Yea its upscaled. Its like the gba sp except bigger, clearer, and brighter.
Hope it's not gonna be a 79.99$ CAN plus taxes game.
the headline made me think for a second this had just been released on the switch!
@IHateTombs Captain Toad launched at $40. AC3 is $40. Not all ports are $60. But if Link's Awakening is $60, I'm not biting.
@Zuljaras I wouldn't say it looks better than a 101 SP. The upscale is blurry, and pixel-perfect is too small. I'd still go for it for the suspend function.
Only GameGear VC and GBA VC had the high quality scaling... for some reason.
Get the old one for 2.69 for 3ds to look forward to the new one coming on switch?. Bring it on switch too.
@Zuljaras Yes they're enlarged. They seem huge on an XL. They look better than an SP because the screen is brighter and of a higher quality.
You got my heart racing for a sec there jeez
@Octane Hopefully you are right but this is Nintendo, after all. I wouldn’t put it past them to charge $60.
@justin233 Nah, I'll just keep saying it will be $40, and Nintendo will listen to me.
Just like how I keep asking for Pikmin 4 and...
@justin233 That'd be like a kick in the balls.... Maybe I'm wrong, but $39.99 is a good price, just like they did with New super Mario bros u deluxe.. oh, wait...
@Zuljaras I think the 3ds virtual console version is just the normal DX for GBC. Nothing different
Yeah... they're really going to have to do a lot to convince me that the $80 version is going to be better value than the $6 version that I already own. Maybe they can do it, but the bar is pretty high and they're not off to a good start.
I don't think they will make it a $60 dollar game because its not even that big of game if its like the original. But if they add enough stuff in to it like new quest monsters or just A lot more than the original maybe it will be $60. But for now I think it might be a $30 to $40 title.
Get the Original for $2.00 get the New Switch version $60 what now that makes no since.
For a moment, I've been hoping this discount wouldn't go through the needlessly complicated My Nintendo filter (the Switch eShop, credit where it's due, is far more intuitive when it comes to using Gold points). Sucks, but neat to see the whole "what would be the point in buying the original when a remake is coming?" debacle has been acknowledged somewhat by Nintendo themselves.
@MysticGengar Thank god I'm not the only one 🤣 I clicked that link so fast.
@Finlderp
Oh thank god I'm not alone as well.
Now that people are talking about cost of the remake I can hardly see it's worth paying full price for.
I have been waiting for this my whole life....
NOT!
Hope they extend the game, as it’s quite short.
My Nintendo just makes me miss Club Nintendo.
It'll be interesting to see what they charge for the switch version . I can see all sides of it Honestly. I can see it dropping for $40 or $60. But maybe theyll meet halfway and do $50 depending on how much extra content is there.
Oh and the follow up is if you haven't played this yet go and grab it. Even at full price $5.99 it's worth it. One of my favorite zelda games of all time. It'll be a nice refresher before the big one comes
Ooohh yes I'm really digging these rewards! 35% off Big Brain Academy? What a steal!
I've been legit waiting for a discount code from My Nintendo for this game for half a year. Oh look Europe gets one does NA get one nope
Also yeah Nintendo really needs to get with the times when Spyro and Crash 3 games get remastered from the ground up for 39.99 USD and 49.99 Canadian. Then Nintendo comes along oh no we want the full 59.99 USD and 79.99 CAD. And yes i'm a hypocrite because i've bought DKC Tropical Freeze , Bayonetta 1 and 2 , NSMBUD , Pokemon and soon Zelda
I'd hop on that Link's Awakening deal but I'm in the US, sadly 😓
Nah... Nothing beats playing the original on the classic Game Boy-screen.
@justin233 That was oone of my first thoughts. I don't think it would ever be a day 1 purchase for me if BotW is available cheaper.
Has anyone noticed that on the official page for Link's Awakening Switch under the 'Number of Players' section it says "To be determined"?
https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/the-legend-of-zelda-links-awakening-switch
Is that normal for Nintendo to do? Kinda sounds like they may well be adding some kind of co-op functionality into the game.
Could be interesting.
@justin233 much more likely £40
I got so excited because the title was clickbait and omitted DX. People that want it on 3DS already have it. This site gets worse every day. At least list a bunch of sales and make a legit non-clickbait informative article.
@justin233 I see it being $40, but will gladly pay whatever since I have always preferred old school Zelda to 3D ones. Even though the 3D ones are awesome too
