Really cool! I think the Wii U was the last good backwards compatible system Nintendo made.
Like.. the 3DS and Wii U both have an extensive library but the Wii U was able to play gamecube, wii and Wii U PLUS all the virtual console games and stuff from the Wii era. That's massive.
The 3DS might have more games but it's really only playing DS and 3DS games.
So many (good) games!

What's impressive is that this Wiiu can not only hold fatal frame inside the SSD, but at least one other large game while still having fatal frame.

We have a Wii U Pro, it's called the Switch.

The disc slot is way more valuable than 4 GameCube controller ports, especially since an adapter is available.

I mean maybe if you have a broken disk drive, but otherwise I'd much rather do a setup where I don't ruin my ability to use any of my 56 disk Wii U collection. I get that he's going for full digital, but that Gamecube adapter could have easily been modified into the side if needed.

Isn’t the GameCube adapter only for Smash Bros on Wii U (unlike Switch which registers them as controllers for all games)? I assume they’ve modded the software as well.

When I got my Wii U to run Dolphin and F-Zero GX in 1080p HD 60fps, I was blown away and had never look back since.

With the SSD he put in, the disc drive is useless anyway. Smart choice to integrate the controller ports instead.

@Mr_Gamecube I thought a Wii U could play GameCube games! Well that’s on me… still that’s a pretty big library of games when factoring in the amount that are available on Wii virtual console (and that you can carry those purchases over). Most of those games aren’t even on the switch online yet… (looking at you, Faxanadu.)

@ChromaticDracula Since that Wii U is most likely softmodded, it actually could natively play Gamecube games through the Nintendont homebrew app. 😂

It's even compatible with the official Gamecube Controller Adapter.

This cannot be a Pro if it's not really enhancing anything.

Kind of impressive, from a technical standpoint, but utterly useless for people with a full disc library of games, so all in all, nothing but an arguably fun gimmick.

If they were native GC ports then it would be really cool, there's a small number of Wii games that support only wiimote or GC, in the case of SR Zero Gravity, the Wii U is stuck with an incomplete game because you can only play with motion controls when using a wiimote. This game plays considerably better without motion controls.

But since this is just the adapter you don't have much use for it beyond a few Wii U games (or is it just Smash?) and a few homebrew Wii programs.

Doesn't cut close to the Wii U's true potential. I really don't find much value in this.

Yikes. I can get behind an all digital mod, but get a new face plate, don't just build over it. And if this isn't modded to play gamecube games then what's even the point?

'Better' is pretty subjective here. Sacrificing the disc drive to do this isn't worth it, IMO.

There's far easier ways to get better storage than doing this anyway, without butchering the system.

this is funny that someone would do that in their spare time. The controller port holes are all different shapes. LOL Should have bought some better tools for the job.
