Mortal Kombat 1 Gets A New Update On Switch, Visual Improvements & More

Honestly, really need to see some screenshots on this. Eventually game will go on sale for physical, and need to know if it's worth it

Should have made the Switch Version 2D. Then it would run flawlessly.

Just heard the patch is ......27gigs!!!!! That's bigger than every single 1st party game lol.

The patch is 27 gigs…. It probably combines the first patch with the newer stuff in an updated form if the previous patch… in other words… shoddy patch work.

If they reduce the patch size of the game or something that would be significant.

Flipping $100 dollars for the “Kollectors Edition” of this game and they ship it with a sub par 4 GB game card.

1tb cards are less then $100, I don’t know why anyone cares about much space games/patches take up. Memory storage will be an issue for every device you own forever, it has been for me. Always managing what games/apps and getting more storage no matter what device. If they needed100gb and they could make it eliminate load times or something, then I’m all for it.

What I do not agree with, which has always been an issue since pc gaming and internet, games are more and more getting released, and then finished. Which is why I do not buy games like this until I can get it on deep discount, or it has been fixed.

@iLikeUrAttitude Last I heard the PC version is also a disaster so I'd maybe hold off on that.

This patch is what should had been included in the actual game from the beginning. Well at least it now had better graphics on Switch.

@Donutman Well said! I think the part about games getting released before they're really finished has been such a frustrating problem. MK1 on Switch is the one that I've felt the worst about purchasing at launch. I never expected PS5 quality graphics going into it, but this was just borderline unplayable at times...for $70. I miss the old days, tbh, when a game launched without the concept of it possibly getting a patch to fix it all up months/years later.

@Donutman I’m generally surprised for anyone that isn’t on a 1TB at this point. Especially if you are interested in games beyond the Nintendo evergreens and tiny indie/retro games.

I have a 1tb card and I'm about to run out of storage on it. Need those 1.5tb cards to come down in price...

at this rate, I hope the Switch 2 has 2 sd card slots...

@Lizuka I play on PC and the only issue it has is atrocious load times if you aren't using an SSD. I don't even have a high end graphics card, a baseline 3060 has been Steam's most common card for over a year now.

What where the issues for pc? I have it on pc and have no problems. Sometimes only some framerates drops (sometimes) and hardly noticeable.
I run it on a Nvidia Gtx 1080ti

While the Switch fix its most major issues with the game, now the other platforms needs to fix the balancing issue. There's no reason to give only player 1 the full advantage of a match according to Tweedy. While player 1 could do a combo perfectly with good timing and connects, player 2 doing that same combo will had different timing and likely won't connect.

Maybe now I'll consider getting the switch version. I gotta go check some videos to see how it runs and looks after the patch.

1TB of base storage, with only 700GB or so available and I already ran out of space installing 4 AAA games.
I was pretty much forced to shell out 200 bucks for a 1TB card for XBOX and 200+ bucks for a 1TB m.2 drive for my PS5.

Almost all latest gen major games on XBOX and PS5 are 120-200 GB in install size these days. It's insane.

This is still unacceptable release they shouldn't bother with switch not mention charging 70 bucks for awful graphics not worth it.

In my view, if a game doesn’t release in an acceptable state it doesn’t deserve my consideration. It’s a statement of intent, or lack thereof, from the developer.

@Donutman I have a 1tb card and out of curiosity I checked to see how much space I had.....less than 20 gigs. If I had the game I would have to archive something straight away. I still have about 150 gigs I could download but I haven't because of space limitations.

@Zach777 They did that with MK11 too. It was often easier to remove the game and redownload with the patch.

As soon as the patch finished installing it wound up being 27.1 GB overall… so they also condensed it by 5 GB after the 1.3.0 patch.

It is now ver 1.5.0

Haven’t tried it yet since the update.

@WaffleRaptor01 Actually I'd really have loved this. Prerendered 2D Sprites, kinda like Killer Instinct back in the day, fixed camera perspective, maybe a little dramatic zoom like in samurai showdown!

I do sympathize. It's annoying. One shouldn't need to wait a couple of weeks after purchasing a game for a patch to make it playable.

@Spoony_Tech I’m a bit different, where I only have 512 in my switch, and 1tb for my steam deck. Was on vacation last week where there is no internet, so I had to delete a couple games to download a couple the morning I was leaving, took like an hour to to this then good to go. With downloads in background I feel there is no real reason to complain anymore. My Xboxone is no different, out of space.

Great, bought this a week ago but wanted to wait til the update happened before playing. Hopefully its now better.

The patch makes a great improvement on the graphics, performance, and loading times. And now, Invasions is available, which was the mode I was waiting the most. Now, the game is complete hehehe. And, 27GB ain't that bad. You people don't complain about 100gb+ games on PC and on the other platforms, yet yell here like toddlers about not having enough space on their Switch? Gimme a break, and grow up.

I love how "shocked" people seem to be over this version, its almost like they've all forgotten just how terrible MK11 was/is on Switch (and that includes the monster "update" because of the tiny cartridge they used).

For everyone saying it’s 27 gigs it is but then it gets optimized it’s a total gigs of 33.2 after everything (total not just update)

@Devann this is the reason why i prefer physical all the way it doesnt kill as much storage as digital games do.

@WaffleRaptor01 Having to wait for a fixing patch is very commonplace these days, not only on switch but everywhere. That's why I love myself some retro gaming!

Why can't they wait and patch and then release the updated cart????? I think this has alot to do with GREED not value for customer.

@Devann two SD card slots. Yes, definitely this. I have said this myself before on these boards. My biggest ask for Switch 2 really. In fact make it 3 or 4 slots.

It’s funny, I watched some videos about the Switch version and didn’t even mind the visual quality. What I find appalling is the actual game Never been into graphic violence and cruelty. That has of course been no different with earlier MK’s.

@marvelis yeah but if you have under 27gb storage left you can't update and you have to remove and redownload.

@WaffleRaptor01 I have no idea how developing works but I wonder if giving the Switch version more of a cel shaded style and simplifying the textures/lighting would have been less taxing. Would be a very different style but at least it would be able to hold up on its own as a unique version instead of looking inferior (assuming that would have made for a better port overall)

This patch helped a lot, in terms of graphics, glitches, and content. Loading times are still pretty long and the game occasionally becomes a stuttering mess, though.
