Interesting idea. Although, I can also see some gremlins here. I can see those who would upload levels just to mess with the group, though I doubt they would outpace the team.

@MS7000 Yeah, that would be a lot more work than playing the levels. It also helps that you need to complete the level in order to be able to upload it, so whatever they would throw against the team should be beatable at least.

Would love to watch some of this. It's such a shame that these services won't be available soon. Another game that we won't be able to preserve in the history of videogames.

Times like these make me love the Nintendo community so much I just wish I had a WiiU, and the shutdowns shouldn’t be too bad, what with Pretendo offering homebrew services soon.

While 2 is one of the "best-selling" Switch games, I don't think it quite reached the sales heights Nintendo was hoping for.

All of the Super Mario Maker 1 levels have been archived and preserved already. That is not to discredit anyone who wants to complete as many levels as they can before April 2024, but it does allow the levels to be accessed and played even after Nintendo shuts the lights off.

@Peteykins Agreed. The GamePad functionality raises the first above the sequel, despite the enhanced feature set in the sequel, in my opinion.

Nope. I'm going to record thousands of levels, but I stick to expert mostly, I'd get burnt out playing just Super Experts. Much rather record way more levels than just these impossible things that drive me mad with frustration and thumb pain while taking a lot longer to win, if I ever do.

Anyways, I run the largest (?) archive of uncut, no commentary Mario Maker 1 & 2 courses (over 50,000 videos so far) on Youtube and If anyone wants to see their Mario Maker 1 levels on there, I'm taking requests if anyone has a level or creator code, so long as it's no lower than 1% clear rate.

for some reason, "N" years isnt enough time for me with a game so i just never bothered with maker or 2. its a mental block, but the fun with games for me is aging with them, not necessarily playing them "in their time."

this goes for all online gaming. i like to "check back in" with a game 10, 20+ yrs down the line. i feel bad for younger gamers who got into games with online. it'll all go away and they are left with nothing but whatever new stuff is being delivered, good or bad.

@Pillowpants I vaguely remember quite a few of the levels normally having an easy exit via a "hidden" door near the beginning of the stage, with the stage itself being rather difficult. Certainly would be more of a nuisance than anything.

On one hand, that's some impressive dedication. On the other hand, I feel like 85-90% of all SMM1 and SMM2 user-created levels range from mediocre to downright horrible lol. Like I loved SMM1+2, particularly the creation process, discovering new objects/interactions, playing friends levels, and playing randoms' levels with thought put into them. But playing 100 man mode in SMM1 and the Marathon mode in SMM2 soured me on the quality of user-created levels and had me yearning for official Nintendo levels again. Don't get me wrong, my levels certainly have flaws and can be rough around the edges too, and quality is subjective. But a huge majority of levels I encountered (across all difficulty levels in both games) just felt like a combo of impossible troll or kaizo levels, boring, and/or aesthetically ugly.

Archiving all levels and allowing creators to still play their own levels offline after March 2024 is one thing and I support that, but many junk levels are better left unbeaten imo.

This is exactly why I haven't bought Mario Maker 2, they should have let you import others' levels into your game permanently.

And here I am, just complained about another pixel art game, thinking I've got to play SM Maker tomorrow. The irony!
